Youth Exchange Program
Our youth exchange program provides more than just a window to the world -- it is an entire doorway to friendship, better international understanding and a brighter future.
Imagine being a high school student spending nine months living and learning in a foreign country.Imagine the difference it will make on college applications and the way you would look at world we live in.Imagine no more, pack your bags and grab your passport but do it quick because the program application deadline is October 31, 2016.

Rotary Youth Exchanges link more than 160 countries and 8,000 youth each year. The program started in 1929 in Europe and connected to the United States in 1939. Through this program, students are given the opportunity to grow as individuals while their concept of the world is growing too. Participants return with a broader view of the world and a deeper understanding of themselves.

When these young people become adults, many assume leadership roles in their communities and bring to these positions the benefits of and insights from their exchange experiences. As a result, Rotary's Youth Exchange program becomes a powerful force in the promotion of world understanding and peace.

Through the exchange program, Rotarians seek to provide the best possible environment for students. The program enjoys the advantages of nearly 40 years of experience and a network of more that 1.2 million Rotarians around the world. This experience and support system ensures the best possible exchange for participants in the program.

What is this all about?
Local Rotary Clubs sponsor High School students to study abroad and live with host families during an academic year. In return, an international student will come to your school district. While away your host family and Rotary Club will treat you as family showing you the very best of their community and country.
A Rotary Club member acts as your counselor while you are abroad to help and assist you with anything you might need.
Eligibility Requirements
  • You are 15 to 19 years old when school starts abroad
  • You attend high school
  • You have average or above average grades
  • Children of Rotarians and non-Rotarians are eligible.

The average cost of a year-long exchange is about $3,000 including airfare; costs may vary depending on where you go of course.

Typically, the parents or guardians

and the student are expected to cover the following expenses:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Health and accident insurance that meets the requirements of the host club and district
  • All travel documents, such as passports and visas
  • Clothing and spending money
  • An emergency fund for unexpected expenses during the year
  • Ancillary travel and tour

The host Rotary Club in your destination country provides you with up to three caring host families, free meals and accommodation, free tuition, and a monthly allowance, which varies from $50 to $100 monthly, depending on the country.

From your parents' perspective, it is often less expensive for you to go abroad than to stay home!
