Terrence Bedford
My previous term as president of Rotary was during COVID. During that time we were confined to Zoom meetings and an occasional outdoor service project / fund raiser.
When the opportunity arose to serve a second term, I made a heartfelt decision to take another run at it.
It is my hope that we can restore the weekly meeting schedule; bring back the fun and fellowship we enjoy; and most important,
continue to serve the Stanwood Camano community. Here are just a few ways we serve:
- Host Stanwood Camano Fair Parade
- Deliver over 800 books a month to kids under 5 years old via the Imagination Library program
- Provide scholarships to students
- Recognize students from Elementary to Highschool for being outstanding
- Provide grants to nonprofits
- Help fund education initiatives in Honduras, Mexico
- Conduct work parties at Rotary Adventure Playground at Freedom Park
- Conduct various service projects where needed.
Our motto is “ Service above self”. We hope you’ll consider joining us and you too can help make a positive impact on the Stanwood-Camano community.

Avalanche Busters: A Historical Memoir of the Snowbird and Alta Ski Patrols
By Linda Bonar
This historical memoir gives the reader a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes view of the founding of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort and discloses how the ski patrol worked on the avalanche-ridden mountain.
The reader can ride along with the original ski patrollers as they exploded bombs and shot cannons to control the scary dangers of killer avalanches. But sometimes they got caught…like the time a huge slide snatched Jimmy and buried him more than six feet deep. Or the instance when John finished his bombing route but suddenly found a stray explosive burning right beneath his ski tips. This electrifying book chronicles Snowbird’s nearly impossible birth as described first-hand by its three founders, Ted Johnson, Wilma Johnson and Dick Bass. It will enthrall and astonish you as you travel along with the young adventurers who perpetrate hilarious pranks on each other, carry out youthful misdeeds and survive frightening disasters on the mountain.

Weekly meeting speaker, Kathleen Olson, shared her passion for animal rescue yesterday!
Kathleen is currently the Executive Director of Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary & Adoption Center, HSUS Animal Rescue Volunteer, and longtime Rotary Member. She shared with us information about the exciting expansion of the Purrfect Pals facility. The current facility has received over 7,232 cats and of those 6,868 have been adopted!
Her work with HSUS will take her to Oklahoma City in April where they will help coordinate the rescue efforts of over 250 dogs and puppies. The dogs have been removed from two large-scale puppy breeding operations as part of an alleged cruelty case.
If you would like to find out more about Kathleen and the efforts of Purrfect Pals and HSUS please find the links to their websites below:
